You’ve probably heard of eyelash extensions and maybe you are even thinking about getting them, but how much do you know about them?
From the style consultation, to the treatment, to the maintenance after, we have your complete guide to eyelash extensions.
What Are Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash extensions are used to enhance the look of your natural lashes. These are meant to be a semi-permanent way to enhance your lashes.
Eyelash extensions can be made from several different materials including; mink, synthetic material or horse hair. These lashes are individually glued on to your existing lashes, not to be confused with false eyelashes which are glued to the lid and are temporary.
Eyelash extensions do require regular maintenance in order to fully maintain the desired look.

Preparation
First, it is important the you consult with a professional eyelash extension specialist when considering this cosmetic procedure in order to ensure that your lashes are done properly.
A professional eyelash extension specialist will schedule a private consultation with you in order to assess what eyelash look will suit you best. This also provides you with the opportunity to meet with the artist and ask any questions you may have.
Together, you and your lash artist will determine what eyelash look will best fit you. Some considerations include;
-Style: Do you want a more natural lash look or are you going for dramatic glamour?
-Length: How long do you want your eyelash extensions to be?
-Thickness: How thick would you like them to be?
-Curl: Are you looking for a curled look or straighter?
Treatment
After deciding what look you are looking to achieve with you eyelash extensions, the treatment process will begin. The treatment will typically last about 2 hours from start to finish.
Your lash artist will carefully glue the individual lashes onto your existing lashes with a specialised glue while you lay back and relax.
We recommend that you come to your appointment with all eye makeup completely removed and to keep in mind that you will not be able to get your extensions wet for at least 24 hours after your treatment, so plan accordingly.

Maintenance
Once your lashes are in place and you are in love with the look, it is important to understand that in order to maintain the look you will need to have periodic refills every two to four weeks.
To extend the life of your lashes, you should also avoid any oils getting into your lashes as it can cause the adhesive to break down. Also, you should wash your lashes every morning with a specialised soap that helps to remove any impurities or buildup. You lash specialist will be able to recommend a soap formula for this.
Removal
If you decide that you no longer wish to have eyelash extensions, there is a process you should follow as not to damage your lashes. This can be done at the salon where the extensions were applied and will take around 30 minutes.
Your lash specialist will apply a special serum to the lashes to dissolve the adhesive. Once the adhesive has been cleared, the extensions can be carefully removed, and the debris will be cleaned away.
