How to Maintain Your Colour After Your Appointment
When you get your hair coloured at our salon in Exeter, your expert colour specialist will create a colour for you that suits your skin tone perfectly and enhances your best features. You’ll look healthier and more vibrant than ever.
As time passes, though, your hair colour can fade and become dull, while roots can start to appear. You can keep your colour looking fantastic and avoid extra trips to the hairdresser by following these tips:
1. Use products designed for colour treated hair.
Shampoos for colour treated hair remove impurities without stripping your hair of its colour, while conditioners colour treated hair keep colour sealed in. Products for specially made for blonde hair prevent brassiness.
Because colouring can make hair delicate, products for coloured hair are formulated to be extra gentle, so your hair stays shiny and healthy.
We recommend only using professional salon products as a lot of drugstore products contain nasty silicones that build up a plastic coating on your hair follicles which is detrimental to your hair health.
For any blondes, we recommend using a purple shampoo and/or conditioner once a week. The purple shampoo will help to counteract any yellow tones that start peeping through before your next toner appointment. If you're unsure what products are right for your hair type, ask your stylist at your next appointment, we're always happy to help!
We have a wide selection of products available to buy from our salon and on our online shop. We're currently offering free delivery over orders over £20. Visit our online shop here.
2. Don’t rinse with hot water.
Though we all love a relaxing hot shower, hot water can open hair follicles, causing colour to escape. After you shampoo, rinse with lukewarm or cool water to hold in colour.
3. Protect your hair from the Sun
UV light from the sun can cause fading, so protect your hair with a product that has a UV filter.
Good hair health also includes scalp health! Make sure to wear a hat to protect your scalp from burning.
4. Keep your hair away from chlorine
Particularly for the first week, try to keep your hair covered when swimming in a chlorinated pool, or treat your hair with a leave-in conditioner to protect it before you dive in.
5. Use a heat protectant.
Heat damage can make your hair dry and it can also make the colour turn brassy. Always use a heat protectant whenever you heat style.
