What Type Of Face Shape Best Suits A Fringe?

July 10, 2019

If you're wondering what type of face shape best suits a fringe, we've got the answers. (spoilers: every face type can have a cracking fringe).  We know how hard it is to make the leap from no fringe to fringe. There's a lot of different styles out there and who is to know what will look good? There is one way of determining what fringe will suit you, and that is to look at your face shape. If you don't know your face shape, don't panic. Determining your face shape depends on 3 things, your forehead, cheekbones and jawline. Grab a mirror so we can identify your face shape and see what fringe will suit you best.

1.Heart shape face:

A heart shaped face had a wide forehead and a narrow chin that meets in a point, like the bottom of a heart. If you have a heart shaped face, your forehead or cheekbones will be the widest point of your face.
Heart shaped celebrities include Reese Witherspoon and Ruby Rose.

Fringes for heart shapes:

Being mindful of the length over width, a wispy Brigitte Bardot style fringe will suit you best. Keeping it light and playful will not highlight the wider forehead but accent it and your soft face beautifully. If you are conscious of your forehead, a side swept fringe is another great option to break up your face.

2. Round shape face:

Round faces are strikingly symmetrical. The cheekbones are often not the most prominent part of the face, with the trademark being a round jawline. The length and width of a round face is roughly the same.
Round face shape celebrities include Emma Stone and Chrissy Teigan.

Fringes for round face:

It is common for people with round faces to completely disregard the fringe, fearing that it will make the face appear fuller. But think again, a full front fringe may not be the go-to however a full sweeping side fringe will add some complimentary angles to a round face. A side fringe reaching to the cheekbone will accent the hollows of your face structure like a warm hug.

3. Square shape face:

On a square face, the forehead, cheekbones and jaw are all the same width. Similar to the round face, however it has a more angular jawline.
Celebrity square shaped faces include Cameron Diaz and Demi Lovato.

Fringes for square face:

A long eyebrow length fringe will perfectly match your strong jawline. You can go for a thick block fringe if you're feeling brave, or a soft full fringe for a more flirty allure. You can style them straight or lightly part them in the middle to add a bit of fun. Try to avoid micro fringes as they may pull your face downwards.

4. Oval/oblong shape face:

An oval or oblong face shape is longer than it is wide. The widest part of the face will be the forehead but overall the face has a narrow structure. It has soft features and not many harsh angles.
Celebrity oval faces include Beyonce and Zooey Deschanel.

Fringe for oval/oblong face:

Luckily for you, your face is screaming out for a fringe. Pretty much any style of fringe will complement an oval face shape, so it's worth focussing on what makes you feel confident! Soft and shaggy, micro fringe, thick and blunt; the possibilities are endless.

5. Rectangle Shape face:

The rectangle face shape can be considered a mixture of square and oval, it has the length of oval with the strong structure of a square face. A rectangle face is characterised by a high forehead, long face and square jaw.
Celebrity Rectangle faces include Courtney Cox and Meryl Streep

Fringe for rectangle face:

Layers will give your face some more width; long, layered fluffy bangs are your best friend. That means Bardot bangs and adding layers to frame your fringe, like this major throwback vintage picture of Courtney Cox, is a yes from us.

Now you know what type of face shape best suits a fringe; all of them! The most important thing is to make sure you choose something you will feel confident with. It's important if you do decide to get a fringe, don't forget the upkeep. It's not always easy to tame a fringe in the morning so make sure you're prepared to take one on.
